Bossier Parish wins national honor
BOSSIER PARISH, La. (Press Release) — Bossier Parish has been named winner of a 2016 Achievement Award from the National Association of Counties (NACo) for its program, “Developing an Innovation Hub,” in the Community/Economic Development category.
Hundreds of nominations from across the country were received for the prestigious awards in a variety of categories. Winners will be presented at NACo’s 2016 annual conference and exposition on July 24 in Los Angeles County, California, and will be listed in the event program.
“Through intergovernmental and community cooperation and coordination, Bossier Parish developed a multi-faceted, multi-year strategic plan that has yielded innovative education that is now a national model,” the nomination letter declared.
Also, Bossier Parish innovative programs have yielded 21st century jobs, start-up companies and potential partnerships for the area.
“As a community, we’re so fortunate to have such strong leadership that has not only defined a vision for growth and innovation but also made the necessary strategic investments to ensure success,” said G.B. Cazes, vice president of the Cyber Innovation Center (CIC). “This award is the formal recognition of Bossier’s hard work and commitment to excellence.”
Parish leadership was on display in critical areas, including supporting programs leading to the creation of a knowledge-based workforce capable of filling the high-tech jobs that are being recruited to the area.
Bossier Parish also worked with economic development partners to create a business climate that successfully attracts technology-based companies. An example is the parish/CIC partnership that recruited Computer Sciences Corporation to locate its new integrated technology center and 800 high-tech jobs to the parish.
Groundbreaking for the Fortune 200 company facility was held in September, 2014.
Bossier Parish supported the creation and became home to the Louisiana Tech Research Institute that serves as a catalyst for innovation to solve complex problems, drives economic advancement and fosters collaboration.
“We are so fortunate in Bossier Parish to have so many individuals dedicated to building a solid future for our people,” said Wanda Bennett, president of the Bossier Parish Police Jury. “I am delighted their tireless efforts on behalf of every citizen are being recognized with this prestigious award. I am proud to be a part of this team.”
According to the parish’s nomination statement, “Bossier Parish’s long-term, disciplined approach is transforming its community.”
